Who we are

OffPeak Energy ("we", "us") is an independent UK consumer guide to home battery storage. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

Via the installer quote form at /quotes we collect:

The payback calculator does not store anything. Everything you type into it stays on your device.

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure processes standard request metadata (IP address, browser user-agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics that identify individuals.

Why we use it (purpose)

Quote-form data is used solely to prepare your quote and to match you with an MCS-certified installer partner who can give you a firm fitted price. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for marketing unrelated to your request.

Legal basis

Our legal basis for processing the personal data you enter into the quote form is your consent, given by ticking the consent box on the final step. You can withdraw consent at any time (see "Your rights" below); withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Who we share it with

We share the quote-form data with a single MCS-certified installer partner covering your area so they can contact you with a quote. That installer becomes an independent controller of your data at that point and will have their own privacy notice. We do not share your data with any other third parties for their own marketing.

Where and how we store it

Quote submissions are stored in a secure managed database hosted in the EU/UK region. Access is restricted to the OffPeak Energy team and the systems required to fulfil the quote request. Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). Data at rest is encrypted by the platform provider.

How long we keep it

We keep quote-form submissions for up to 12 months from the date of submission, after which they are deleted. You can ask us to delete your data sooner by emailing us — see contact details below.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us using the address on the contact page. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you believe we've mishandled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We'd appreciate the chance to resolve any issue first, though.

Cookies

We use only strictly-necessary cookies required for the site to work (for example, session and CSRF protection where applicable). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Analytics and session replay (PostHog)

We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to understand which pages and features people use and to spot usability problems. To keep this cookieless, PostHog is configured to store its identifier in in-memory storage only — no cookies, no localStorage — so no cross-session tracker is written to your device. We also record anonymised session replays of interactions on the site, with all form inputs masked so we never see what you type into the calculator or the quote form. We do not run advertising trackers, and analytics data is processed on infrastructure located in the EU.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and its "Last updated" date. For substantial changes affecting existing users, we'll contact you where we hold your email address.
